How hard it must be today to find a genuine karate dojo. Every tom dick and harry is a expert, brandishing fancy belts and titles and yet that is just to cover up BULSHIDO and take your money.
SO HOW DO YOU FIND THE RIGHT DOJO ?
KARATE is not all about fighting, every man / women will do that when pushed to the limits- History books are FULL od such brave people — KARATE is much more.
A new beginner will look at those majestic photos of instructors, dreaming to be like HIM / HER often idolizing that person, which should not happen- Respect YES!
The beginner are innocent of corruption, Karate politics and mismanagement, bullies in class, narcistic instructors and cult dojos.
and yet many are indoctrinated into believing this is OK.. IT IS NOT.
The web is a great way to cross check people and organizations. ASK and be knowledgeable before making your informed decision.
NOT ALL DOJOS are the SAME.
Search for a teacher who is open, not threatened or narcistic. Find a instructor who is willing to say they do not know and will find out or point you in the direction of someone who does. EGO do not belong in a DOJO especially if you are an instructor.
Seek a dojo where fellow karateka are allowed to think, and question. If the instructor ends up disagreeing with you then BEHOLD the NARCISSTIC instructor.
Major points to look for and do when starting KARATE.
- * Transparency. is the instructor a ME, MYSELF and I person?
- * Effort. – is the instructor just going through the motion ?
- * History – Lineage
- * Speak to the members.
- * Consistency of the instructor
- * How knowledgeable are the instructors. ?
- * What do other sensei say about that person/ sensei..
- * Are you looking for BUDO or SPORT karate classes.
- * Cost per month and how much you get for it.
- * CAN PARENTS trust him/ her with children ?
- * Are you just a number or are you family?
- * Are the gradings legit and will they be accepted by top karate organizations?
- * Should you join another TOP karate organization, will they admire your training or frown at it?
Because a real TEACHER does not just train fighters, they build members mentally and physically who can stand on their own.
They DO NOT just yada yada in every class or Bully everyone when it comes to Kumite.
Good instructors care and help each and every member.
KARATE training is to make you stronger, more capable, more aware, more confident and prouder, not take it away.
So if you ever find yourself in a DOJO where your world is getting smaller instead of bigger, where your choices are being limited instead of expanded, where your voice feels quieter instead of stronger, pay attention.
MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION – IT IS YOUR LIFE .. YOU HAVE FREEDOM OF CHOICE.
The most dangerous part in KARATE is not getting hit. It is giving your power to the wrong person and being ABUSED.
